SHOCKWAVE

Shockwave therapy is a multidisciplinary device used in orthopaedics, physiotherapy, sports medicine, urology and veterinary medicine. Its main assets are fast pain relief and mobility restoration. Together with being a non-surgical therapy with no need for painkillers makes it an ideal therapy to speed up recovery and cure various indications causing acute or chronic pain.

Shock wave therapy procedure lasts for approximately five minutes. The patient is lying down, relaxed, and once the most painful spot is localized, the application starts. Patients feel vibrations and pleasant pounding which is first applied to the surrounding muscle tissue in order to increase the local circulation which also relieves pain. Finally, the painful spot is treated. After shock wave therapy, a deep penetration laser is applied to the same spot as an obligatory accompanying method. Recent studies conducted worldwide recommend a combination of shock wave therapy and classic physical therapy methods such as: ultrasound, electrotherapy, magnet therapy, and cryotherapy.

Three to five shock wave therapies need to be done with five days intervals.

Shock wave therapy uses sound waves which transmit a lot of energy through large positive and small negative pressure into muscle tissues which are in acute, subacute or chronic painful conditions. It is efficient even at the depth of four to seven cm where it is difficult to reach using other methods.

The equipment is set to a determined default frequency and the number of beats depends on the diagnosis. There is no variation between each application.

However, there are some contraindications which need to be listed:

Infection in the treated area, thrombosis, thrombophlebitis, tumor in the treated area, pregnancy and heart stimulator.
